Smog is made of air pollution that is or looks like a mixture of smoke and fog.

WHAT IS SMOG MADE OF?

It is made of by the chemical reaction of sunlight, nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds present in the atmosphere

These atmospheric pollutants are released in the air when fuels are burnt

The sunlight and its heat react with these atmospheric pollutants and form smog

WHAT HARM SMOG CAUSES TO HUMAN LIFE?

Smog may cause harm in following ways:

Breathing difficulties i.e. shortness of breath

Increased mucus production in the nasal and oral cavity

Chest tightness

Cough

Eye irritation

Unusual tiredness

Headache

HOW CAN SMOG BE REDUCED?

It can be reduced by:

Burning less fuel by driving less

Taking care of automobiles

Fueling up during the cooler hours to avoid the reaction with sunlight

Avoiding products that release high level of volatile compounds

SMOG IN PAKISTAN – DISRUPTING DAILY LIFE

Smog has engulfed many cities of Pakistan  mainly in plains of Punjab since the end of October 2017

According to Punjab’s Environment Protection Department, smog-forming particles from India are the main reason behind this pollution
